Italian military in Jericho for inspection over mission

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 11 - A delegation of personnel of the operational command of the interforce summit of the Italian Defence has been invited to Jericho, in the West Bank, for an inspection - as part of the MIADIT operation suspended a year ago - to verify the logistical conditions to reopen the mission, well-informed sources said Friday.
    The perspective, as requested by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the Italian government, is to deploy 200 Carabinieri military officers in Jericho and, only after a positive evaluation of security conditions yet to be verified, by both sides, an extension of the mission to the territory of Gaza.
    The delegation, sent a week ago, includes eight people - Carabinieri officers, doctors and logistics experts - the sources said. (ANSA).
