(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 14 - An ER nurse in the hospital of Agordo
near Belluno on Monday was punched by a patient after she
refused to give her methadone in the latest of a series of acts
of violence against healthcare personnel in Italy.
After punching the nurse, the patient, who was accompanied by a
man, pulled out a knife and threated her, according to first
responders.
The couple, who are known to police, were reported to the
authorities.
The government last month upped jail time for people attacking
medical staff to a maximum of five years as part of a new decree
approved by the cabinet to address a wave of assaults on doctors
and other hospital personnel throughout the country. (ANSA).
