(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 22 - The Council of Europe's independent
human rights monitoring body ECRI accused Italian police of
racial profiling during activities of control, surveillance and
investigation, with particular regard to the Roma and people of
African origin, according to the latest report dedicated to
Italy published on Tuesday.
The report, updated to April 2024, drafted by the European
Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), said
"authorities don't seem to be aware of the relevance of the
problem and have not considered the existence of racial
profiling as a potential form of institutional racism".
ECRI concluded asking Italy for a complete and independent study
on the situation. (ANSA).
