League says will propose upping penalties for 'spies'

Crack down on those who violate privacy to blackmail, influence

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 27 - The rightwing League party said Sunday it would propose raising penalties for 'spies' like the alleged hacking gang that allegedly compiled sensitive dossiers on business, political and showbiz figures in a huge new Milan snooping probe.
It said this was also needed after other recent cases including one allegedly targeting VIPs, business and entertainment figures, and politicians including Premier Giorgia Meloni and her sister Arianna.
"In light of the scandals and investigations, even the most recent ones, the League will propose in parliament an increase in penalties for the so-called spies," said the statement from Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini's party.
"The aim is to punish even more severely those who violate privacy to blackmail and influence". (ANSA).
