(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 27 - One of the prime suspects in a Milanese probe into alleged snooping on the confidential data of business, political and showbiz figures in Italy allegedly sent an email with President Sergio Mattarella's name on it, police said Sunday.
The alleged hacker gang allegedly led by Milan Fair Foundation President Enrico Pazzali and former supercop Carmine Gallo allegedly used the services of tech expert Nunzio Calamucci to access private data on Paolo Scaroni, former CEO of fuels group Eni and president of AC Milan soccer club, Giovanni Gorno Tempini, number one of government merchant bank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, and the banker Massimo Ponzellini.
Also allagedly targeted were former Milan Mayor Letizia Moratti, and Roman singer-songwriter Alex Britti, police said.
"We sent it to twenty people, plus three emails, an email in the name of Mattarella, with the name and surname that if you look at the account it is registered to the President of the Republic," Calamucci was wiretapped as telling Gallo, both arrested as part of the Milan investigation into stolen data.
Prosecutors said "they intercepted (...) an email address assigned to the highest office of the State, President Sergio Mattarella or in any case that they managed (...) to illegally use or clone the aforementioned account". (ANSA).
