(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 30 - A Milan-based snooping gang accused
of compiling dossiers on commission by harvesting data from
highly sensitive national databases allegedly had access to the
activities of the National cybercrime centre for the protection
of critical infrastructures of the postal police, investigative
sources said Wednesday.
The gang investigated by the Milanese anti-mafia investigative
directorate DDA and by the National anti-mafia and anti-terror
directorate DNA, allegedly led by ex supercop Carmine Gallo and
hacker Nunzio Calamucci, both under house arrest, had "received
information that allegedly concerned an activity" of the centre,
the sources noted.
In wiretaps, Calamucci said he had contacts at the National
cybersecurity agency ACN.
"We were inside the unit …. the one now called ACN", he is
wiretapped as saying.
The Milan probe into illegal hacking and snooping on personal
police and interior ministry files, among others, is believed to
involve more than 800,000 victims, according to investigative
sources.
The hacking gang, which allegedly revolved around Enrico
Pazzali's Equalize investigative company, is suspected of
targeting mainly business figures but also high-ranking
politicians including President Sergio Mattarella, police have
said. (ANSA).
