(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 9 - Over half of the Italians polled by consumers association Udicon and the Piepoli Institute will be celebrating Christmas at home this year, according to the survey out on Monday.
The poll found that 55% of those surveyed said they would certainly be celebrating at home while another 25% said they would probably not be going anywhere.
In addition, the majority said they would be gifting clothes, food, wines, books and beauty products.
Videogames ranked fifth and were the favourite gifts of Italians between the ages of 18 and 34, said the poll carried out ahead of the holiday season.
"This will be a more 'domestic' Christmas, where family and the home are where festivities are celebrated, compared to the first years after Covid", said the president of Udicon, Martina Donnini.
Only 18% of the Italians interviewed said they would surely be taking a trip during the festivities while 12% said they were likely to be travelling.
The percentage of those who will be travelling was instead higher - 27% - for those between 18 and 34 years of age, decreasing to 21% among the 35 to 54 age group and to 8% for those over 54.
Udicon stressed that consumers this year will opt for useful and practical presents, buying in store and trying to take advantage of Black Friday deals and discounts, picking time with family at home over expensive trips. (ANSA).
