(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 13 - The Carabinieri's NAS health police
unit said a recent nationwide campaign of inspections at 1,000
B&Bs revealed that one in five fail to comply with the law.
It said special attention was paid to Rome in view of next
year's Jubilee, and seven out of 30 B&Bs checked in the capital
were non-compliant.
It said the issues with around 200 of the facilities included
hygiene, health and safety violations and accommodation capacity
being beyond that permitted.
It said the irregularities were so bad at 10, which had a
combined value of 3.5 million euros, that the B&Bs were
impounded or the permit to do business was suspended.
There was even the case of a totally unauthorised B&B in the
province of Pescara set up inside a garage. (ANSA).
