(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 17 - Defending champions Inter Milan on Monday night beat Lazio 6-0 in the Rome side's most significant home defeat in Serie A.
Lazio started the match six points behind leaders Atalanta like Inter, with Marco Baroni's team unbeaten in 12 home games.
The Rome side are also top of the Europa League ranking.
Hakan Calhanoglu first scored for Inter in the 41st minute, followed by Federico Dimarco.
Nicolò Barella then netted the third goal six minutes into the second half before Denzel Dumfries scored two minutes later and Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram completed the work.
"I take responsibility for this defeat, the team lost from a nervous standpoint, we lost distance but the team can't find disunity when faced with the first difficulty", said Lazio coach Marco Baroni.
"I wasn't good in managing the emotional part of a match against an extremely strong team.
"You can lose, but you can't get out of the game", he said, adding that "we have to be good and grow after this defeat".
