Output increase will depend on EV growth says Elkann

'Fewer cars produced in Europe-Italy due to market contraction'

Output increase will depend on EV growth says Elkann

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 19 - An increase in the production of vehicles in Europe and in Italy over the next 20 years will depend on the growth of the EV market, Stellantis President John Elkann said on Wednesday.
"If fewer vehicles are produced today in Europe and in Italy, it is a consequence of the market's contraction over the past 20 years.
"At the same time, the increase of production in Europe and in Italy over the next two decades will depend on the market's growth, which will increasingly be electric", noted Elkann.
Elkann recalled that the "world's vehicle market includes some 80 million units sold in 2024.
"China takes the first spot with 30 million, followed by the United States (16 million) and the European Union (15 million)", said the president of Stellantis.
"Compared to 20 years ago, sales in China boomed (+400%), they went slightly down by 5% in the US and dropped in Europe by 12% and in Italy by 30%", he noted. (ANSA).
