Partial solar eclipse will be visible in Italy

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 27 - A partial solar eclipse will be visible from Italy on Saturday but only a select northern and central regions are expected to get a glimpse of the cosmic phenomenon, said the Union of Italian amateur astronomers (UAI) on Thursday. On Saturday March 29, the moon will pass in front of the sun, casting its shadow for viewers across the North and Centre.
Since the moon, sun and earth are not perfectly lined up, the movement will result in a partial eclipse, in which the sun will look like a crescent.
Southern regions including Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily and southern Puglia will not witness the phenomenon.
The best view of the eclipse is expected at around midday, based on the area: in Rome, for example, it is set to start at 11:34 am and end at 12:33.
Overall, the phenomenon will be visible also across central and northern Europe, a small part of northwestern Africa and northern areas of Russia and North America.
The Italian National Institute for Astrophysics will broadcast the event live on its YouTube and Facebook channels, among others. (ANSA).
