18 Askatasuna members convicted of wrongdoing

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 31 - Some 18 members of the Turin-based Askatasuna anarchist and anticapitalist 'social centre' squat were convicted of various offences carrying terms ranging from four years and nine months to five months on Monday.
But they were acquitted of the offence of criminal conspiracy.
Turin prosecutors had placed Askatasuna under investigation in a wide-ranging probe into conspiracy to form subversive groups.
Almost 100 people were probed and some of them were accused of terrorism.
Askatasuna takes its name from a banned Basque political party (from the Basque word meaning "Freedom"). (ANSA).
