Writer Ermanno Rea dies (2)

(ANSA) - Rome, September 13 - Writer Ermanno Rea died Tuesday in Rome at the age of 89. Naples-born Rea wrote several books based in his home town, notably the autobiographical novel Mistero Napolitano (Neapolitan Mystery) which won the Viareggio Prize in 1996.
    He also won the Campiello Prize in 1999 with Fuochi fiammanti a un' hora di notte (Flaming fires at a time of night).
    Rea was a finalist for the Strega Prize in 2008 with Napoli ferrovia (Naples railway).
    His last published work was Il caso Piegari (The Piegari case) in 2014.
    Shortly before his death Rea said "it will be novels that will save the world from dissolution".
    Rea leaves behind a novel called Nostalgia which will hit bookstores on October 13, another homage to his Neapolitan roots and a complement to his Naples trilogy Rosso napoletano (Neapolitan red).
