Pasolini's Rome abode to be auctioned off, calls for halt

Neighbourhood files petition, 'should be a museum'

(ANSAmed) - ROMA, 15 NOV - The first home in Rome of the author and director Pier Paolo Pasolini, on the first floor of a building in the Ponte Mammolo area and measuring 40 square meters, is due to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The Rome outskirt is where the writer first came into contact with the population of the Italian capital's working class outlying areas, which were to be the subject of many of his works.
It was here that he wrote the first chapter of 'Ragazzi di Vita', a coming of age novel for him, and was where he moved in 1950 with his mother.
Though there had been a plan to make it into a 'House of Poetry', the plan fell through and it will thus be sold off despite its cultural and historic value.
Many associations and other in the area have launched a petition to try to stop the move and to instead turn the former home of the well-known poet into a museum.
The petition states that the centenary of the poet's death, which will be celebrated in 2022, could be an "excellent opportunity" to start such a "cultural and social project".
