(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 4 - An Italian ballet dancer who had been
blocked by the Ukraine war in Kyiv arrived back safely in Rome
on a scheduled commercial flight from Bucharest Friday.
Bari-born Giordano Signorile, 19, landed at Rome's Fiumicino
Airport after being rescued earlier this week in a joint
operation by Italian intelligence services and the foreign
ministry.
He came back to Italy via Moldova and Romania in a 48-hour
journey, his mother said on Facebook.
Signorile had lived in Ukraine for five years where he was
training to become a professional ballet dancer.
He took refuge in his school, the Ukrainian Academy of Dance,
after the start of the Russian offensive last Thursday.
Together with two friends, a young man and a young woman of
Chinese origin, he hid in the academy's underground garage
during the bombing in the Voskresenka quarter, about 40
kilometres from the centre of the Ukrainian capital.
Upon arrival in Rome Signorile said "I'm in Italy and I'll soon
be home and it still doesn't seem real to me.
"I'm incredulous and very happy and I thank infinitely the
anti-molestation observatory". (ANSA).
