(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 28 - Paolo Sorrentino came up short in his bid to win a second Oscar overnight after his movie E' Stata la Mano Di Dio (It Was The Hand Of God) was beaten to the best international film prize at the Academy Awards by Drive My Car by Japanese director Ryusuke Hamaguchi .
Sorrentino's film is bittersweet semi-autobiographical coming-of-age tale in Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona's Naples.
The Naples-born director won the 2013 best foreign film Oscar for La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty).
Italy's two other contenders at the Oscars also came away empty handed.
Massimo Cantini Parrini, who was in the running in the best costumes category for Cyrano, was beaten by Jenny Beavan for Crudelia.
Enrico Casarosa's Luca was beaten to the best animated picture price by the favourite, Encanto. (ANSA).
