(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 28 - Oliviero Toscani is a "warrior"
against the terminal disease that has struck him down and caused
him to shed 40kg in the last year, his doctor said Wednesday
after the legendary ex Benetton photographer told Corriere della
Sera he was thinking of ending his own life.
"Oliviero is an extraordinary patient, aware, a real warrior
against the disease," said cardiologist Michele Emdin, a
lecturer at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and the
director of he cardio-thoracic department of the Fondazione
Monasterio.
"This morning I wrote him a message after reading his interview
with the Corriere to remind him that amyloidosis is a tough
disease for all patients, but it can be treated and he is
undergoing treatment with great strength."
Emdin added that scientific research was making "great progress"
on the disease, which is due to the formation of abnormal
proteins in the body.
"It's a pathology that can be treated, and early diagnosis in
decisive, as in Oliviero's case". (ANSA).
