(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 13 - The Lazio town of Subiaco has been
awarded the title of Italian Book Capital 2025, Culture Minister
Alessandro Giuli told a press conference on Friday.
Subiaco, near Rome, will receive a 500,000-euro prize to be
invested in initiatives to promote reading.
The Lazio town beat the other finalists, which included
Grottaferrata, Ischia, Macchiagodena, Mistretta and Sorrento.
The president of the jury, Gian Arturo Ferrari, said the
selection focused on smaller urban centres because larger cities
"have more resources and possibilities" and the Italy is "mainly
characterized by smaller centres", adding that Subbiaco in
particular offered a wide range of proposals to "valorise and
promote the book project", including the restoration of local
libraries and the use of new technological resources to attract
young readers. (ANSA).
