(ANSA) - VERONA, OCT 23 - The new 'Vinitaly USA 2024' project has been presented at the International Wine Expo, which is currently taking place in Chicago.
The metropolis is the biggest city in America's Midwest, the home to around 70 million people who buy around 200 million dollars worth of imported Italian wine each year.
Vinitaly is taking part with over 200 companies presenting more than 1,000 brands.
"The team effort that we have been engaged in with the public institutions for some time has been vindicated and we can say that an important, complex challenge has been met - that of bringing together the Vinitaly-brand projects to create a powerful occasion to promote the Italian wine sector in the USA," Federico Bricolo, the president of the Veronafiere complex that hosts the Vinitaly wine fair in Verona each April, said at the opening ceremony.
Matteo Zoppas, the president of Italian Trade Agency ICE, stressed that "trade fairs are of strategic important for business matching, especially for small-and-medium-sized enterprises.
"Together with Veronafiere and Vinitaly, which have already made smart moves on this market, ICE is looking at making Vinitaly USA 2024 the main strategic event for this fundamentally important market along with the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture and the Assocamerestero association of Italian chambers of commerce abroad, all of which have been present in Chicago over the last few days," Zoppas said.
Veronafiere CEO Maurizio Danese said that "Vinitaly Usa 2024 will also follow the indications given by the new committee of importers, with whom we will agree on strategies and common interests for the development of Italian wine.
"The aim is to make our relationship with a market that pays great attention to premium wines and, at the same time, is always looking for new proposals, even more fruitful," added Danese.
"And Italy, with its 540 vine varieties, is able to offer a range of choice that is unique and is able to satisfy the needs of the hospitality sector, of importers and of distributors".
