(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 30 - Spumante will beat champagne by 95
million corks for the Italian bubbly popped to just six million
for its older French cousin over the Christmas and New Year
holiday season in Italy, farm group Coldiretti said Saturday.
Some 89% of Italians will raise a glass of spumante to toast the
new year this time around, it said on data from the Ixè polling
agency.
About a third of the whole year's Italian spumante consumption
comes in the year-end festive period, said Coldiretti.
According to another survey, New Year spumante consumption in
the Bel Paese is worth over 712 million euros. (ANSA).
