Climate crisis affecting tourism to Italy's UNESCO sites

Drop of 25% in foreign visitors in summer months - report

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 18 - The number of foreign tourists to Italy's UNESCO world heritage sites in the summer months was down by 25% in 2024, according to a new report on sustainable tourism by the 'Thea' group for the Veneto regional government and the Association of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.
The report linked the drop to summer heatwaves being made more frequent and more intense by the climate crisis.
It cited data from national tourism agency ENIT that said over 51% of tourists are influenced by the climate crisis in the choice of their destinations. (ANSA).
