(ANSA) - BRASILIA, 24 GIU - The "8 ½" Italian Film Festival celebrates its 11th edition in Brazil in 2024, expanding the screening circuit to 22 cities. The opening night will be hosted at the prestigious Pier Luigi Nervi Hall of the Italian Embassy in Brasilia on 27 June. The event will be attended by numerous representatives of culture, cinema and leading political and diplomatic institutions. In the federal capital between 27 June and 3 July, all the films on the programme will be screened in two cinemas in the city: the Liberty Mall and Cinesystem Brasília.
The festival is organised by the Ministry of Culture, the association Il Sorpasso and Risi Film Brasil with the collaboration of the Italian Embassy, the Italian Cultural Institutes of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and the support of Cinecittà. Since 2020 the Festival has been realised with the main patronage of Generali Seguros and, for the first time in 2024, benefits from the Culture Incentives Law.
Ten films in all will be on the bill. The opening film of this edition will be 'C'è ancora domani' by Paola Cortellesi. This year's guest of honour will be director Daniele Luchetti, one of the most important Italian authors of his generation, with works such as Mio fratello è figlio unico and Legami and La Nostra Vita. Luchetti will be in Brazil to launch his latest film 'Confidenze', already successfully presented at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
