(ANSA) - ROMA, 05 LUG - The Embassy of Italy in Panama participated in the inauguration of Wanda's House, an interactive space where visitors can learn about the problem of plastic contamination in Panama and around the world through educational experiences. With this centre, Marea Verde, the innovative project to mitigate rubbish pollution by facilitating opportunities, educating and empowering citizens to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable Panama, seeks to raise people's awareness on how to reduce solid waste pollution in Panama's rivers and coastlines.
The Casa de Wanda was built next to the Wanda Diaz water wheel located in a forested area on the outskirts of Panama City. The huge water wheel collects plastic bottles, taken from the Juan Díaz River to prevent them from reaching the sea.
The house also wants to form alliances with authorities, environmental bodies, municipalities, private companies and international organisations to seek joint solutions against pollution. The building will be open to students and residents of the surrounding communities, scientists, companies and tourists for workshops, conferences, activities and information on, for example, the mangrove ecosystem.
