(ANSA) - GINEVRA, 22 LUG - A contract has been signed in Zurich for the renovation, restoration and functional adaptation of the state-owned 'Casa d'Italia' building, which will house the Consulate General, the Institute of Culture, the Italian State Schools and the Comites.
The 'Casa d'Italia' - a historic 5,000 square metre building in the heart of Zurich dating back to 1919 - will also house a large and modern multi-purpose hall available for the organisation of events, specifies a communiqué from the consulate.
The work amounts to more than CHF 14 million, the construction site is scheduled to start on 2 September 2024 and the new building is due to be handed over in 17 months.
'I am really happy,' said Consul General in Zurich Mario Baldi; 'after seven years of waiting, the construction work is finally starting. Our goal is to celebrate Republic Day 2026 in the new Casa d'Italia, which will truly be the home of all Italians'. Engineer Monzali, representing the construction company Pizzarotti S.a., for his part, assured the utmost commitment to ensure that the work is delivered on schedule.
