(ANSA) - TUNISI, 04 SET - The director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, Alfonsina Russo, is on a mission to Tunisia, where she met the director of the National Heritage Institute, Tarek Baccouche for the follow-up of the Colosseum-El Jem twinning agreement. This was announced by the Italian embassy in Tunis, announcing "new initiatives in the coming months to enhance archaeological cooperation between Italy and Tunisia".
The Colosseum-El Jem twinning agreement was signed on 28 April, during the visit of Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, with the aim of enhancing the amphitheatres of Rome and El Jem, promoting the cultural and historical heritage that unites the two countries. The agreement also envisages the carrying out of excavations, research and restoration work for a better knowledge and valorisation of the Tunisian site, and the organisation of joint research activities including the exchange of personnel, conservation and restoration of monuments, workshops and meetings between researchers and specialised curators.
