The mission was aimed at reaffirming the interest in Dalmatia, and the talks, which were very cordial, confirmed the positive cooperation underway in various sectors, including through the INTERREG Italy-Croatia programmes. The city of Split, thanks to its tourist vocation, has numerous air and sea connections with Italy.
On the cultural side, the delegation paid a visit to the Dalmatian university, meeting with the Rector of the University of Split, the Head of the Italian Studies Department, and the lecturer sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among other things, they noted the good cooperation with the University of Naples in the context of European programmes and, above all, the commitment to maintaining the highest possible number of students enrolled in Italian courses.
The meeting with the Community of Italians, at the historic headquarters in the centre of the city of Diocletian owned by the Italian Union, could not be missed, whose president highlighted the numerous activities in favour of the Italian language and culture carried out. The same was noted at the headquarters of the Dante Alighieri Society, which organises courses and promotes events throughout the year. Ambassador Trichilo, for his part, recalled the attention paid to Split by the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb and the events promoted in the Dalmatian region.
The mission to Split ended with a visit to the approximately 1,000 square metre factory of the Dolomites company, founded in 1998, with a quality system certified in accordance with ISO 9001, which produces custom-made PVC windows and doors. The company, owned by Dolomites Infissi of Longarone (Belluno), produces mainly for the Italian market.
Afterwards, Ambassador Trichilo travelled to Gospić, the capital of the Lika and Segna Region, where he met the President of the Region.
