Italy-Mexico 2024 Prize, Carlos Slim among the winners

Recognition of the strengthening of relations between the two countries

(ANSA) - CITTÀ DEL MESSICO, 16 SET - The names of the winners of the 2014 edition of the Italy-Mexico Award, an annual event that rewards people and companies that significantly contribute to strengthening ties between the two countries in various sectors, have been announced.
    The ceremony will take place on 17 October at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City, and the programme will begin with a press conference attended by the Italian Ambassador, Alessandro Modiano, and Lorenzo Vianello, president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce, organiser of the event since 2009.
    In this edition, the honorary award has been given to one of the richest men in the world, the entrepreneur Carlos Slim, president of the Carso Group, a conglomerate of companies operating in various sectors.
    The special Art and Culture award will also be presented to one of his group's institutions, the Carlos Slim Foundation, set up in 1986 with the aim of strengthening the integral formation of human capital in Latin America.
    The winner of the solidarity award is Dr. Patrizia Casetta, since 2004 a member of the team of Italian volunteer doctors who assist the indigenous population at the San Carlos hospital in the municipality of Altamirano, Chiapas State.
    Contributions to the strengthening of the bilateral relationship in the entrepreneurial sphere will be recognised with awards to Tesi Group, a company active in Europe and Latin America in the health information systems sector, and to Ópticas Rosedal, which has been on the market for over 70 years in the field of eye protection and care.
    The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the Haber brothers, who control a group of leading companies dedicated to the production, distribution and use of specialised menswear licences, including High Life, Calderoni, Boggi, Robert's and Men's Fashion.
