(ANSA) - CARACAS, 19 SET - The Italian ambassador to Venezuela, Giovanni Umberto De Vito, met at the Venezuelan Italian Centre in Caracas the young Italian-Venezuelan sportsmen and sportswomen about to travel to Catania and Palermo to take part in the 9th edition of the Coni Summer Trophy, scheduled from 3 to 6 October.
Accompanied by the consul general in Caracas, Jacopo Martino, and Coni's delegate for Venezuela, Nello Collevecchio, the head of the diplomatic mission congratulated the promising athletes and their accompanying persons, underlining the significance of the event, launched for the first time in 2014 in Caserta. An event that, according to the ambassador, "brings the younger generations closer to sport and allows them to mature an unforgettable exchange experience, which will undoubtedly contribute to nurturing their human and value bonds with Italy".
"The Italian Embassy," said De Vito, "has long been committed to promoting sports diplomacy initiatives, such as the Coni 2024 Trophy, aimed at affirming the principles of healthy competition, solidarity and cooperation between peoples. "This is a priority of action for us diplomats and an excellence of Italy, which can offer a great deal to the world in this field, as repeatedly affirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani," the ambassador added.
The initiative was included by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the 'Tourism of Roots' project to enhance Italian communities abroad and facilitate the rediscovery of their places of origin and the culture of their origins. Valuable in Venezuela is the collaboration of the Coni delegate, whose constant commitment helps build bridges and foster channels of dialogue between Venezuelans and Italians.
