Ambassador Flumiani at the Matej Bel memorial ceremony

Received as a gift a copy of a letter from the Slovakian scholar

(ANSA) - PRAGA, 20 SET - Ambassador Catherine Flumiani took part in the commemorative ceremony 'The Legacy of Matej Bel from Slovakia to the World' dedicated to the work of the Slovak scholar and encyclopaedist on the occasion of the 340th anniversary of his birth, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and where, in the presence of representatives of the diplomatic corps, contacts and correspondence with leading scholars and numerous European personalities were illustrated.
    In the course of the ceremony,' reads a note from the embassy, 'Ambassador Flumiani received as a gift from Foreign Minister Juray Blanar a copy of the letter that Matej Bel addressed on 18 August 1727 to Jacopo Facciolati, professor of logic at the University of Padua and author of numerous philosophical studies, to announce the start of his main work 'Historical and Geographical Knowledge of Contemporary Hungary', published a few years later.
    Particular appreciation for the initiative was expressed by the ambassador, who recalled how Matej Bel's contacts with eminent Italian scholars represent a confirmation of the deep historical and cultural ties that bind Italy and Slovakia.
