(ANSA) - ROMA, 26 SET - The Italian Ambassador in Beijing, Massimo Ambrosetti, together with the Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Tiziana D'Angelo, greeted passengers on the inaugural flight of the new direct Venice-Shanghai airline, which landed today at Marco Polo Tessera Airport. The new China Eastern Airlines route makes it easier to reach Venice by promoting closer connections between the two countries, also in view of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
The new route is designed to mark the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo's death and the 20th anniversary of the Italy-China strategic partnership.
The route will connect Venice and Shanghai with three weekly flights with the intention of transporting up to 70,000 passengers in the first year of operation for a time saving of 40% compared to other travel solutions.
