(ANSA) - NAIROBI, 14 OTT - The Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (Apra) investment forum opened today in Nairobi. The conference brings together ministers, investors, developers, and financial institutions from the African continent to promote open dialogue, foster the development of a strong project network, and mobilise large-scale investments to accelerate the energy transition and support the development of green industries in the participating countries, which in addition to Kenya include Ethiopia, Ghana, Namibia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, and others.
Also present on the opening day of the forum were the Ambassador of Italy to Kenya, Roberto Natali, and the Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), Francesco La Camera of Italy, who in his speech emphasised that "the inaugural Investment and Partnership Forum in Nairobi marks a milestone in this alignment, bringing together key stakeholders to mobilise financing and transform priorities into tangible results.
The three days of meetings and events also represents a significant milestone in the implementation of the recent Nairobi Declaration and Call for Action to increase the continent's renewable capacity to 300 gigawatts by 2030, contributing to the Cop28 goal of tripling global renewable energy by the end of the decade.
"Under the leadership of President William Ruto, who has supported both the Nairobi Declaration and Apra, Africa's energy transition is gaining unprecedented momentum," Kenyan Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, said in his remarks.
