(ANSA) - ROMA, 15 OTT - Italian literature from Dante to Machiavelli but also remembering Grazia Deledda, the Sardinian writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1926. This is what the Italian Embassy in Bahrain, in collaboration with the Royal University for Women and the 'Grazia Deledda' Italian Language and Culture Centre, propose to celebrate on the occasion of the 24th edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World. Opening the programme of events, the Italian Ambassador in Manama, Andrea Catalano, reflected on the worldwide dissemination of Italian literature and, recalling the theme of this edition, 'Italian and the Book: the World between the Lines', emphasised the role of books as a vehicle of Italy's cultural heritage and identity, underlining the prestige of our publishing sector.
"Our literary heritage encapsulates a unique vision of the world, in which every word carries a story and every sentence resonates with cultural significance, transcending mere communication to become a powerful vehicle of emotions, thoughts and narratives that unite us across time and space, breaking down all cultural barriers and promoting deep and mutual understanding," said the ambassador. Stressing the excellence of the Italian publishing industry, also underlined by Italy's participation as Guest of Honour at the International Book Fairs in Tunis, Warsaw and Frankfurt, and its annual turnover of over €3.3 billion, the ambassador added: "It was certainly a significant achievement, one to which we hope to contribute today by embarking on a journey through literature thanks to the work of Marilina Pellegrini and the staff of the Royal University for Women, committed to the promotion of Italian and the preservation of a vital part of our culture here in the Kingdom of Bahrain, creating ties and new connections that can override all borders, further strengthening bilateral cultural relations between the two countries."
