(ANSA) - ASUNCION, 25 OTT - Thanks to 'very good bilateral relations', there is 'room for growth' in economic exchanges between Italy and Paraguay. This is the conviction of
the Ambassador of Italy in Paraguay, Marcello Fondi, who spoke about it in an interview with the Tribuna programme of Paraguay TV, taken up by the agency Información Paraguaya.
At the head of the diplomatic office in Asunción for a year and a half, Fondi highlighted the progress already made in various sectors that "consolidate a long history of friendship based on economic and cultural ties" and the "growing interest in the Italian language" in the country.
However, it is in the economic sphere that the potential sees untapped potential. "Italy is only Paraguay's 15th partner in terms of trade relations, and we want to improve," Fondi said, highlighting Italian interest in sectors such as agriculture and high technology, an area in which a joint project to launch nano-satellites is already being considered, in which Italy is seeking to collaborate on Paraguay's technological development.
One of the ambassador's most important bets is the promotion of the Italian small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) model, which has been fundamental to the country's industrial development. "I am sure it will also affect the productive fabric of Paraguay," he added.
The ambassador also anticipated that next week, a delegation led by Italy's Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, will be in the capital of Paraguay to meet with the authorities and carry out bilateral cooperation projects.
Regarding cultural relations, Fondi said that there has been an increase in demand from Paraguayans interested in travelling to Italy, reflecting the strengthening of ties between the two countries.
