(ANSA) - ROMA, 25 OTT - Giuliana Panieri, currently Professor of Geology at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Tromsø in Norway, has been appointed Director of the National Research Council's Institute of Polar Sciences. This was announced by the Italian Ambassador to Norway, Stefano Nicoletti, who congratulated the professor on her appointment.
Panieri is also a member of the steering committee of the Research School on Changing Climates in the Coupled Earth System at the University of Bergen, Secretary General of the European Geosciences Union and a Research Fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (USA). The field of study she specialises in is the use of micropaleontology and geochemistry to study extreme environments and in particular the possible connections between methane emissions and climate change in the Arctic.
