(ANSA) - ROMA, 25 OTT - The Italian ambassador in Dakar, Caterina Bertolini, took part in the inauguration of a middle school in Thidelly , in the municipality of Coumbacara , Senegal, financed as part of a project of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Dakar. In the presence of the Minister of Education, Mustapha Mamba Guirassy, the ambassador emphasised the priority for the Italian government, also in the context of the G7 presidency, of education in Africa Minister Guirassy recalled that the Italian-Senegalese programme of support for basic education systems (Paseb) is involved in the construction and equipping of 110 primary schools and 42 middle schools in the regions of Kafrine (centre), Kolda (south), Sédhiou (south) and Kaolack (centre).
This programme, Moustapha Guirassy added, also intervenes in the social sector by offering scholarships to students in vulnerable situations and has made it possible to build 50 water points in these schools, to help improve students' learning conditions.
The minister also took the opportunity of the institute's inauguration in Thidélly to call on parents to promote girls' education and to fight against early marriages in order to keep girls in school.
