Amb. Prunas visits oasis created by Italy-Tunisia cooperation

(ANSA) - ROMA, 28 OTT - The Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Prunas, visited the oasis of Rjim Maatoug created thanks to an Italian-Tunisian cooperation project that lasted over 20 years. The oasis consists of 2,500 hectares of land now used for agricultural production that provides a livelihood for 8,000 people. The intervention is now being replicated in the desert area of El Mahdeth thanks to a new cooperation initiative between the two countries with a high-impact project against desertification and in support of local communities' agriculture. "Where there was desert, there is now life and hope," underlines the Italian Embassy in Tunis.
