(ANSA) - IL CAIRO, 16 NOV - On the day of the municipal elections in Libya, the Italian Ambassador in Tripoli, Gianluca Alberini, attending a press conference attended the opening of the election centre. This was reported on X by the Italian Embassy in Libya referring to the Libyan National Electoral Commission (Lnec).
Libya held a first round of municipal elections in 58 municipalities today, the Libya Review website reports, calling it 'an important step to strengthen local governance and promote democratic participation': more than 200,000 voters are called to vote in 372 polling stations. The municipalities involved include Misrata, Zintan, Sabha, Tobruk and Derna. The second and final phase of elections, in other municipalities, will be held in January.
