(ANSA) - ASUNCIÓN, 16 NOV - Important meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior of Paraguay between the authorities of the Paraguayan and Italian Ministries of Justice within the framework of the European regional programme of technical assistance to Latin American countries "El PacCto 2.0".
The programme, established in 2015, aims to implement good practices, exchange information and strengthen the criminal investigation and prison intelligence system in 18 Latin American countries.
Present for Paraguay were Deputy Minister of Justice with responsibility for anti-crime policies, Víctor Benítez Salinas, Director of Intelligence Pascual Cuéllar, and the head of the Police's Directorate of Investigation against Organised Crime, General Osvaldo Ávalos.
Present for Italy were the magistrate Roberto Tartaglia, chief expert for the prison networks of "El PacCto 2.0" and deputy head of the Department for Legal and Legislative Affairs of the Presidency of the Council, Gianfranco De Gesu, until last year director of the Dap, the Department of Penitentiary Administration, and the lawyer Stefano Cavanna, head of the mission of the multidisciplinary team specialised against public corruption, money laundering and terrorism financing.
The aim of the meeting was to promote the exchange of investigative experiences, data and information between Italian, European and Latin American prosecutors against drug trafficking and criminal finances
The Italian Ambassador to Paraguay, Marcello Fondi, joined the Italian delegation during the highlights of the meeting, assuring support for the mission.
