Embassy in Bratislava participates in Freedom Day

Velvet Revolution anniversary initiative

(ANSA) - ROMA, 18 NOV - On the occasion of the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy, established by Slovakia to mark the anniversary of the beginning of the Velvet Revolution, the deputy head of mission of the Italian Embassy in Bratislava Elisa Polsinelli participated yesterday in the commemoration ceremony organised by the Slovak Confederation of Political Prisoners.
    The ceremony took place at the Gate of Freedom memorial in Devin, in the presence of the President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, the Acting President of the Slovak Parliament Peter Ziga, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment Tomas Taraba and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence Martin Vojtašovič.
    Wreaths of flowers were laid at the memorial created in memory of those who lost their lives between 1945 and 1989 in an attempt to cross the then Iron Curtain. Their sacrifice in the name of the values of freedom and democracy was recalled by the authorities present.
