Pimpa in Arabic on school desks in Iraqi Kurdistan

(ANSA) - ROMA, 18 NOV - The strips of the iconic little dog Pimpa, born from the imagination of the well-known Italian cartoonist Altan and now also translated into Arabic, to tell the historical and architectural beauties of Italy to young students in Iraqi Kurdistan: this is the meaning of the initiative realised, for the second year in a row, by the Italian Consulate in Erbil.
    After delivering copies of the Pimpa book translated into Arabic to a school in Erbil last December, this year Consul Michele Camerota went to Suleimaniya, the other main city in Iraqi Kurdistan.
    At the local Al-Jawahiri school, where Arabic is taught, the Italian consul handed over one hundred copies of the illustrated volume "Pimpa travels in Italy" translated into Arabic.
    The initiative, promoted by the Directorate General of the Country System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and realised in collaboration with the Franco Cosimo Panini publishing house, 'aims to divulge and make known to a young audience, the historical, architectural, gastronomic and landscape beauties of Italy, recounting Pimpa's journey in our peninsula and its territories'.
    As stated in the consulate's press release, "Consul Camerota, recalling that a similar initiative took place in Erbil at the Mar Qaradakh school last year, thanked the director of the school Pakiza Al Zangana and the Governor of Sulaymaniyah Havel Abubakir, who was present at the event, for the warm hospitality received and for having enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, confirming the excellent relations of friendship that bind Iraqi Kurdistan to Italy".
