(ANSA) - ROMA, 21 NOV - Yesterday, Italian Ambassador Massimiliano D'Antuono visited the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, the largest library in the country, founded in 1846.
The ambassador - reads a note - was welcomed by the director general Konstantine Gasakhurdia who introduced him to the history of the institution, which also houses the Book Museum, considered the priceless national heritage of Georgia, where - in addition to 19,000 rare and precious volumes - the 'Dittionario georgiano e italiano' by Stefano Paolini, the first Georgian book printed in Rome in 1629, is also kept.
After a warm meeting with director Gamsakhurdia, Ambassador D'Antuono also visited the Italian Library named after Paolini, created in 2016 thanks to a donation from the Italian Embassy. This conspicuous section of Italian-language volumes comprises a book collection of more than 4,700 titles, including the valuable and rare 1930 edition of 'Le opere minori' by Dante Alighieri.
