(ANSA) - ROMA, 25 NOV - Ambassador Niccolò Fontana presented his letters of credentials to the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, completing the official accreditation procedure with the Iraqi authorities. This was reported by the Farnesina.
During the solemn ceremony held at Baghdad Palace, seat of the Presidency of the Republic, Amb. Fontana was able to talk with President Rashid, accompanied by Foreign Minister Hussein, with whom he briefly discussed the main topics of bilateral relations and the regional situation.
Amb. Fontana mentioned, in particular, the upcoming G7 foreign ministerial meeting in Fiuggi and Minister Tajani's decision to devote part of the event to a discussion on the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea, also inviting the foreign ministers of various countries in the area. President Rashid, recalling his State visit to Rome in 2023, renewed his thanks to the ambassador for the hospitality he had received at the time from President Sergio Mattarella, emphasising the sentiments of affection that have bound him to Italy since his time in Rome and hoping to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
