(ANSA) - SANTIAGO DEL CILE, 25 NOV - With a tribute to Italy as guest of honour, the 29th edition of the 'Catad'Or World Wine Awards' was held in Chile, honouring the world's best wines. Italy participated with over 60 labels, winning 2 Grand Gold Medals, 14 Gold Medals and 2 Silver Medals at the Catad'Or Spirits Awards. The awards were received by the Ambassador of Italy in Chile, Valeria Biagiotti.
During the ceremony, the Italian representative also received an award from the organisation for Italy's 'ancient and extraordinary winemaking tradition'. "Its richness, diversity and the excellence of its wines are recognised throughout the world," it was emphasised.
The Chilean award, Biagiotti said, "celebrates the excellence of the wine-growing world and strengthens the ties between two countries that share a historic passion for wine," emphasising that Italy boasts more than 400 DOC (controlled origin) and DOCG (controlled and guaranteed origin) wines, not counting the more than 100 IGTs, i.e., typical geographical indications.
"The variety of our grapes and their quality are one of our strengths," Valeria Biagiotti emphasised. "This result not only highlights the excellence of the Italian wine sector, but also strengthens the cultural and commercial ties between Italy and Chile, contributing to the promotion of Italian wine in South America." In addition to Italy, 15 other countries participated in the competition: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, China, Spain, Greece, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Peru, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
