Red bench at the Barcelona consulate against violence against women

(ANSA) - MADRID, 26 NOV - On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, 9 projects for the red bench to be installed in the consulate general's premises were presented at the European Institute of Design in Barcelona (IED), in memory of women victims of violence and their lost lives Eighteen IED students presented the 9 projects. The great enthusiasm and creativity that emerged from their proposals are indicative of the importance of the fight against gender-based violence for both the students and the institute's teachers, the consulate-general points out in a note.
    Introducing the event, the consul general, Emanuele Manzitti, emphasised the importance of collaboration with an institution like the IED and of "design and youthful creativity to amplify the message on the theme of combating gender violence". He also recalled that the 'red bench' initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, calls for embassies and consulates to place the bench in their premises as a symbol of the fight against violence against women. As stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, "Italy must be at the forefront in promoting gender equality and women's emancipation, especially in preventing and combating all forms of discrimination and violence against women".
    The Italian Consulate General in Barcelona also joins the 'Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!' project and initiative, promoted by UN Women. The elimination of violence against women and support for women's emancipation are confirmed as one of the pillars of Italy's foreign policy and development cooperation activities, which at the G7 Foreign Ministerial in Fiuggi-Anagni inaugurated a 'red bench' - in memory of women victims of violence and their lost lives - with the affixing of a commemorative plaque.
