(ANSA) - DAMIETTA, 28 NOV - "This line represents a new commercial bridge between Europe, Africa and the Middle East, with Italy and Egypt at the centre": this was stated by the Ambassador of Italy in Cairo, Michele Quaroni, at the ceremony for the launch of the "Ro-Ro" ferry link for freight transport between Damietta, Egypt, and Trieste, held in the port of the Egyptian city in the presence of the Egyptian Prime Minister, Moustafa Madbouly, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Affairs and Minister of Transport and Industry, Kamel Al-Wazir.
"The focus of this initiative on trade in food, perishable and agricultural products is particularly important to us, as collaboration in agriculture and food security between Egypt and Italy is a priority for the Italian and Egyptian governments in the broader context of the Mattei Plan for Africa," the Ambassador said.
"I commend the operators of the line who have taken the step of starting this venture and I am confident that more ships will soon be needed to intensify the ferry service," Quaroni said.
