(ANSA) - ROMA, 10 DIC - The third edition of the Italian Language Week in Iraq, organised by the Italian Embassy in cooperation with the Swiss Embassy and the Italian Department of the University of Baghdad, takes place from 8 to 11 December.
Inaugurated by Ambassador Niccolò Fontana, in the presence of the Director of the Faculty of Languages Prof. Ali Adnan, the event is dedicated this year to 'Italian and the book: the world between the lines'. The theme allows us to explore the connection between language and literature (with particular attention also to the theme of translation), highlighting the role of the book as a vehicle of our country's cultural heritage, values and identity.
During the opening ceremony, Professor of Language Didactics Giuseppe Maugeri (University of Urbino Carlo Bo) spoke with a contribution entitled 'Teaching Italian LS with literary texts'. The same morning also saw a lecture by Professor Ahmed Al Asadi (International Prize for Translation 'Ignazio Silone', 2006) on 'Journey to Paris, from Italian to Arabic'.
As part of a long-term collaboration with Baghdad University, Professor Maugeri is also currently holding an intensive training course for the students of the Italian Department.
The Week will end with the screening of the film 'L'Arminuta' (2021, Giuseppe Bonito), a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Donatella Di Pietrantonio, winner of the 2017 Campiello Prize.
