(ANSA) - ROMA, 17 DIC - "South Korea is a very important market for Italy with an interchange that reaches 14 billion, but above all it is the country in Asia that has the highest per capita propensity for Italian-made products". The Italian ambassador to Seoul, Emilia Gatto, told Ansa on the sidelines of the annual ambassadors' conference at the Farnesina.
"Economic and cultural diplomacy is our top priority," added the ambassador, who recalled how Italian-made products account for 50% of our exports to Korea. "This does not mean," she continued, "that we do not give attention to all those sectors with high technology content. Our task as diplomats is to make people understand that Italy is not only the country of the three f food, supplies, fashion, which the Koreans like so much, but that it has, for example, an important space sector. It is precisely in this sector that we are collaborating with new memoranda'.
From the political point of view, 'the situation in the country has normalised,' Gatto explained, 'we can say that South Korea has shown that it is able to react immediately, it is a structured country with great resilience. Its geographical position,' the ambassador continued, 'makes it sensitive to alliances and international attention. "As Italy we monitor the situation by being part of the United Nations Command in Korea," the unified command structure established in 1950 for the international armed forces to support South Korea during and after the Korean War.
