(ANSA) - ROMA, 23 DIC - The Ambassador of Italy in Mogadishu, Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, was received by the President of Somalia, Hassan Scheik Mohamud, on the occasion of the closure of the second session of the 'Training and Advisory Programme for the Federal Government of Somalia on UN Security Council Membership', an intensive training course financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organised by Unitar and the Med-Or Foundation.
The Somali President,' reads a note from the embassy, 'thanked Italy and expressed to the Med-Or Foundation project coordinators, who were present at the meeting, their sincere appreciation for the training activity that began with a first session held in Rome in November and continued with a second phase in Mogadishu, in which Somali diplomats and officials were updated on the procedures and rules of operation of the United Nations Security Council - of which Somalia will be a member as a non-permanent member for the two-year period 2025-2026 - and on the prospects for the most important geopolitical and international political issues.
Contributing to the success - as underlined by the Italian ambassador and acknowledged by the Somali president - was the professionalism of the organisers and the very high level of the experts and diplomats who conducted the seminars.
Proposed by Med-Or Foundation President Marco Minniti and supported from the outset by the Farnesina and the Italian Embassy in Mogadishu, the programme envisages that the training and consultancy activities will continue throughout the first part of 2025 for the benefit of Somalia's permanent representation in New York and the officials in Mogadishu who will be engaged in Security Council activities.
