Renzi against abolishing labour vouchers (2)

Unions complain system being abused

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, May 4 - Premier Matteo Renzi said Wednesday that he was against the abolition of 10-euro labour vouchers used by employers to pay social security contributions for occasional work hours. Trade unions have blasted the vouchers, saying they are being widely abused, with some employers using them to give a semblance of legality to people actually working regularly, not occasionally, and often full time. "We are against the abolition of the vouchers and willing to discuss ways to improve them, if possible," Renzi said in the Lower House in response to a question from the Italian Left (SI) group. "We are ready for dialogue. Vouchers account for between 1.9% and 2.7% of the labour force and they are mostly used in tourism and retail.
"If there are excesses, we are ready to discuss them".
