(ANSA) - Milan, May 9 - Milan center-right mayoral candidate
Stefano Parisi said Monday he will focus on leading the city and
not on his national ambitions should he win the June local
election.
However his victory would give the center-right an impetus
on the national level as well, he told journalists at an ANSA
forum in Milan.
"A victory in Milan will be very useful to pull the
center-right coalition back together again," said the ex CEO of
Fastweb, who is backed by Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI),
the rightwing, anti-immigrant Northern League, and the small
rightwing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party.
"We are trying to move beyond the center-right," added
Parisi, the proponent of a moderate, liberal approach that would
cut taxes and promote the private sector.
"(League leader Matteo) Salvini knows very well a moderate
candidate like me is needed in order to win," the businessman
said.
